New altar server lists are now available!!
The role of altar servers is marked by sacrifice and service. They are willing to sacrifice their time and convince by fulfilling their scheduled assignments with fidelity, punctuality and devotion.
These are the newly updated altar server guidelines for serving mass. If you have further question feel free to email Our Lady of the Lake at [email protected].
Absolutely NO tennis shoes are to be worn at mass: from this
date (9/7/99) forward anyone wearing tennis shoes to serve mass will be immediately
turned away- leaders included.
Angular Kneeling:
All altar servers will kneel on the first step leading up to the tabernacle during
the consecration. (After the "Holy, Holy, Holy" Prayer..."Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest"). Three
servers will be on the left and three servers will be on the right sides of the altar
facing the host.
Hands: All altar servers will hold their hands in the "angel" positions
throughout mass whether kneeling or standing. No arms are to be
hung down in front of your waist or at your side. Hands always should always be up
and in front of your chest. You can rest your arms when you sit down.
Bells:
The bells have two scheduled times to be rung.
1.)
The first elevation: This is when the priest has the body of Christ
(large
host) and with both hands lifts up the host for God to bless.
2.) The second elevation: This is when the priest has
the cup of blood.
(chalice of wine) and with both hands lifts the chalice for God to bless.
Bell ringing count: One thousand one / One thousand two
Please Note:
Father Joe and Father Tom want to have the bells rung at both elevations only.
Father Peter wishes to have no bells rung during his masses.
For visiting priests have the bells rung both times unless otherwise instructed.
Leaders: Assign all duties at mass. Leaders in training assign in absence of leader.
Extra Points: One point for serving mass. Four points for funerals and weddings.

To be Christ's page at the altar,
To serve Him freely there,
Where even the angels falter,
Bowed low in reverent prayer.
To touch the throne most holy,
To hand the gifts for the feast,
To see Him meekly, lowly.
Descend at the word of the priest.

To sound the silver bell.

Could saints or men enjoy;

Than yours, my altar boy.
God bless you, lad, forever,
And keep you in his care,
And guard you that you never
Belie the robes you wear.
For while bespeaks untainted
A heart both tried and true;
And red tells love the sainted
And holy martyrs knew.
Throughout life, then, endeavor
God's graces to employ;
And be in heart forever
A holy altar boy.
